Erosion is when wind or water wear away small particles of the rock over time. The small parts broken away carry enough nutrients that plants need to grow. If there is enough soil in a crack, and a flower seed lands in it, then a flower might try to grow there. Some kinds of flowers are too delicate to grow under such harsh conditions, but many are hardy enough to make it.
